The following events have been undertaken since 2002 till date.
1st African Regional Conference on Engineering Education and Sub-Regional Workshop on New Engineering Curriculum (ARCEE 2002) held at University of Lagos, 23rd – 25th September, 2002
2nd African Regional Conference on Engineering Education (ARCEE 2004) held at University of Lagos, 20th – 22nd September, 2002
3rd African Regional Conference on Engineering Education (ARCEE 2006) held at University of Pretoria - Conference Centre Pretoria South Africa, 26th – 28th September, 2006
4th African Regional Conference on Engineering Education (ARCEE 2008) held at Kunduchi Beach Hotel and Resort Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, 22nd – 25th April, 2008
In 2008, AEEA co-hosted the 7th American Society of Engineering education (ASEE) Global Colloquium on Engineering Education and 2nd Summit of the International Federal Education Societies (IFEES). The China-AEEA Capacity Building Project was the direct outcome of the meeting.

A 21 AEEA member delegation from all the five African sub-regions was flown to Beijing, China, for the China-AEEA Research and Study Seminar on Engineering Education and Project Management for African Countries which was held between 26th November and 16th December, 2009. The delegation comprised top African engineering education experts from the continent's well established and renowned institutions such as Makerere University of Uganda, University of Lagos in Nigeria, Cairo University in Egypt, Durban University of Technology, Walter Sisulu University, Marrakech University in Morocco, Zimbabwean National University of Science and Technology and a host of other great institutions.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce provided the funds and Tsinghua University Centre for Engineering Education in Beijing hosted the seminar. Top Chinese scholars delivered the lectures. The programme also included visits to special places of Chinese culture and heritage as well as provincial visits. The official seminar opening was held on 4th December and the official closing took place on 16th December, 2009.
Seminar Major Outcome – MoU Signed
At the end of the programme, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Tsinghua University Centre for Engineering Education and African Engineering Education Association. In the MoU the two parties agreed, on the basis of equal partnership, to:
each appoint five scholars to form the Tsinghua University-AEEA Cooperation Committee which will set up one working office at Tsinghua University in Beijing and one working office in Africa to take charge of the implementation, communication and information exchange of the Cooperation Committee. The scope of cooperation includes:
- Jointly carrying out research on China-Africa engineering education
- Regularly organizing forums on China-Africa engineering education
- Jointly publishing research papers on engineering education
- Promoting technology transformation and application and
- Exploring the potential cooperation between Chinese and African engineering education institutions and industrial institutions.
- The parties shall also make use of Chinese and international assistance programmes to organize the China-AEEA Research and Study Seminar on Engineering Education and Project Management for African Countries regularly and to foster more engineers for African countries.
- The parties shall also encourage the innovation of cooperation mechanism to achieve mutual benefits and common developments with the pre-requisite that the cooperation shall not endanger the security of China an Africa.
